My paintings are inspired by spiritual experience, mysticism, and mythology. One of my major motivations for creating art is the meditative state I enter while creating that connects me to the divine.
My paintings take between 1-3 years to make. My painting process is like an archaeological dig. I love to work on my paintings over a long period of time because this lends itself to a dual process of layering - building up the surface - and excavation - uncovering what lies beneath each surface. This process creates a sense of history as I unearth sacred icons from past and future civilizations.
THE RENUNCIATION CEREMONY SERIES
I created this painting series called “The Renunciation Ceremony” as a process to discover the emotional and subconscious experience of characters in a television series I’m developing as they undergo a religious ritual.
